About this commission

Revelation of Proverbs brings Reggie ‘Regg Roc’ Gray and the D.R.E.A.M. Ring dancers back to The Shed, after their sold-out performances in Maze last year, for a virtual performance inspired by the desire to rediscover self in this moment of isolation and confinement. Filming themselves within their own homes, the dancers move while enclosed in different rooms, just as the online video format encloses them on the screen. Revelation of Proverbs showcases the dancers’ individual styles of Flexn—a form of street dance with roots in Jamaican Bruk Up, pioneered by Gray in Brooklyn—as they dance to a new mix by Epic B, a longtime collaborator of the D.R.E.A.M. Ring, that includes original songs by the DJ and producer. In the video, the dancers face their disrupted days with an awareness of emotions and intention to ultimately liberate themselves from their normal routine in bursts of freestyle movement.

Reggie ‘Regg Roc’ Gray
D.R.E.A.M. Ring Co-founder, Director, Choreographer, and Artist Development
The American dancer, director, and choreographer Reggie ‘Regg Roc’ Gray was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He is one of the innovators of a new hybrid dance form, Flexn: a combination of various styles such as bone breaking, get-low, connecting, hat tricks, and pauzing, the style he evolutionized. He produced his first major choreography at the Park Avenue Armory with FLEXN (2015) and FLEXN EVOLUTION (2017) and has toured both productions around the world. In July 2019, he premiered his most recent work Maze at The Shed; it was performed in an architectural maze of light and explored the puzzles and poetry of human coexistence. Recently, he created a new production, Flex Ave, that has toured nationally since January 2020. Known for his choreographic works rooted in social justice themes, Gray will continue to inspire the world through the expression of Flexn and his dance company, The D.R.E.A.M. Ring Inc. (Dance Rules Everything Around Me).
Rafael ‘Droid’ Burgos
Dancer
Rafael ‘Droid’ Burgos, or King Droid, is a born-and-bred Brooklyn native. At only 24 years old he has been flexn since 2010. Before he was serious about dance he was serious about artwork animation, singing, and performing arts. The arts shaped who he is today, and he incorporates his passion for the arts in his dancing to this day. His style is very animated and technical and has been described as “mechanical,” hence his name, DROID. Droid creates objects that he brings to life using four Flexn styles. He is a master of gliding, connecting, get-low, and pauzing. He wishes to one day be a director of his own productions using street dance art forms.
Quamaine ‘Q Virtuoso’ Daniels
Dancer
Quamaine ‘Q Virtuoso’ Daniels is a Brooklyn-based master of Flexn. He started Flexn in 2004 after seeing a dance battle in his school lunchroom and has danced professionally since 2015. He has performed and toured around the world including in countries like Australia, Italy, France and New Zealand, just to name a few. Virtuoso is also a teaching artist with The Shed’s FlexNYC program. He is currently working on paintings that fuse Flexn and his unique drawing style as a part of the D.R.E.A.M. Ring Inc.
James ‘Banks Artiste’ Davis
Dancer
James ‘Banks Artiste’ Davis grew up in Queens and Brooklyn, surrounded by creativity, spirituality, and discipline. As a teen, he met peers and mentors in dance and began to entertain people in the streets of Brooklyn. His specialty dance style is krump. Banks played the role of the angel Gabriel in the English National Opera’s The Gospel According To Mary. Banks recently toured New Zealand with the Park Avenue Armory’s production FLEXN.
Epic B
DJ / Music Producer
Born and raised in Brownsville, East New York, Epic B is a producer, DJ, vocalist, and visual artist. Initially known for his work as a hip hop producer—along with production for the likes of Vybz Kartel and Popcaan in 2009—he’s now a fundamental member and pioneer of the Flex Dance Music scene. Epic is also the music director for FLEXN, a show which the New York Times called “part protest, part dance party, part collective autobiography.” Epic’s debut EP, Late Night FlexN, arrived via Manchester-based label Swing Ting late in 2017 to a positive reception. Its lead single “One Time” landed on FACT Magazine’s Top 50 Tracks of 2017, and additional coverage of the project came from Resident Advisor, Complex UK, and Mixmag. As a music director and producer, Epic has created the soundtracks to the recent productions Maze (2019) and Flex Ave (2020), which has toured nationally.
Abena Floyd
D.R.E.A.M. Ring Executive Director
Abena Floyd is an aspiring dance therapist that is currently pursuing her New York State Mental Health license. Floyd is the executive director and producer of the D.R.E.A.M. Ring Inc. She has worked as the assistant producer and company manager for the Park Avenue Armory production FLEXN, which has toured around the world, recently in New Zealand. In 2018, Floyd produced a multimedia exhibition, Beyond the Yellow Tape, and looks forward to producing more innovative works. Recently, she toured nationally with the newly formed production Flex Ave (2020).
Calvin ‘Cal’ Hunt
Dancer
Calvin ‘Cal’ Hunt has danced since the ballet and jazz lessons his mother enrolled him in as an elementary school student. He learned Flexn at age 15, and his specialty styles include gliding, get-low, and grooving. After six years in the military following high school, Cal began to dance full time and tell his many stories through his body’s movement. Cal continues to travel the world as a Flexn ambassador teaching workshops, recently in Belgium, and performing in a new production from Opéra National de Paris, Les Indes Galantes.
Joshua ‘Sage’ Morales

As a dance artist Joshua ‘Sage’ Morales’s accomplishments include performing and teaching in Southeast Asia, Norway, and France. Through his travels, he learned to truly express and translate his movements. Sage recently appeared in The Shed production Maze. He has also appeared in movies, music videos, and ads in store fronts such as Converse. He is currently developing his own choreographic work, FLOWER, and recently toured as the associate director for the production Flex Ave.
‘Risa’ Morales

She blends multiple dance styles and inspirations ranging from various forms of culture to show her personality through the language of the body. Along with other techniques, Risa creates a unique form of movement for the eyes and hearts of her audience to follow. In 2019, Risa performed with the D.R.E.A.M. Ring in the Shed production Maze and worked with Nike and Converse for commercials. She also models for clothing lines. She has taught dance workshops in Japan, Korea, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam.
